Firefighter I - Technical Certificate
of Credit

The Firefighter I certificate program is a sequence of courses
designed to allow civilian entry into basic fire fighter
training to prepare for a fire service career and provide
equitable basic fire training to fire fighters in the field
through regional cooperation. The program provides learning
opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce academic
and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required
for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Additionally,
the program provides opportunities to retrain and upgrade
present knowledge and skills. Completion of the program of
study leads to a Firefighter I certificate.
Length of Program
A minimum of 17 credit hours is required for graduation. A full time student
can expect to complete the program in 2 quarters.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates may find employment as firefighters, leaders, and
future fire officers in the fire service industry.
Admissions Requirements
Age: Applicant must be 18 years or older.
Education: A high school diploma/GED
is required.
Program Acceptance/Placement: Applicant
must achieve program ready status on
the ASSET placement test (or submit acceptable
SAT/ACT scores.) Applicants who do not
attain the minimum scores must take refresher/remedial
instruction in order to meet admissions
requirements before entering the program.
