Work-Based Learning

The Applied Manufacturing Technology diploma program is
a Work-Based Learning program designed to offer businesses
and industries, and their employees an educational opportunity
which recognizes successful work experience and provides
further technical and academic course work. The program is
intended to produce diploma graduates who possess competencies
as required by the agreement between a participating company
and West Georgia Technical College. This program is customized
to individual students and industries to ensure appropriate
training. Completion of the program of study leads to a diploma
in Applied Manufacturing Technology.
Length of Program
A minimum of 65 credit hours is required for graduation. Flexibility in credits
for graduation has been allowed in order to customize a program to meet specific
company requirements.
Employment Opportunities
Since a student is already an employee of the host company,
this opportunity may provide upward mobility and job security
for the employee through the attainment of new skills and
cross training.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Age: Applicant must be 16 years or older.
Education: A high school diploma/GED is required.
Other: Employed part-time or full-time by a business/industry
willing to participate in the program.
Program Acceptance/Placement: Applicant must achieve program
ready or provisional scores on the ASSET placement test
(or submit acceptable SAT/ACT scores.) Applicants who do
not attain the minimum scores may take refresher/remedial
instruction in order to meet admissions requirements.

These courses are selected by the company from a 24
list of over 100 state approved credit courses.
Elective Courses (minimum of 5 credit hours)
General Core or Fundamental Technical Core 5
Field Based Courses (minimum of 20 credit hours)
Thirty contact hours of occupational based instruction 20
(OBI) per week for the duration of a quarter equal one
quarter credit hour. Occupation-based instruction is
defined as instruction which emphasizes supervised
work experience activities requiring the application of occupational
competencies. Field based courses occur
on-the-job using a structured cooperative approach.
