The Adult Education Program at West Georgia Technical
College has both the flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs
of
students
with different skills, backgrounds and needs. Day and evening classes
are available on the WGTC campus as well as Franklin, Greenville,
Warm Springs, Luthersville, Woodbury, Manchester, and Hogansville.
Students attend classes at no charge and books for classroom use
are provided. Three levels of instruction have been developed from
beginning reading and writing to high school completion (GED).
Adult Basic Literacy provides instruction for reading readiness,
basic arithmetic skills, and an introduction to writing and basic
grammar.
Adult General Literacy provides instruction in reading comprehension, reading
in the content areas, mathematics, and language arts.
Adult Specialized Literacy (GED) provides instruction in reading, science,
social studies, grammar and writing skills, and mathematics. This level will
develop the skills necessary for completion of the GED examination.
The GED Test
West Georgia Technical college is an official GED Testing Center. Successful
completion of the GED Test qualifies an individual for a State of Georgia High
School Equivalency Diploma. GED credentials are accepted by industry, government,
licensing boards, technical colleges, universities, and employers as the equivalent
to a high school education.
The GED Test is a five-part test covering the following subject
areas: Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science,
and Mathematics. To pass the GED, a total score of 2250 is required.
An average of 450 points on each test battery is needed with no
individual testing area score falling below 410 points.
The fee for GED testing is $95, or $19 per part.
Other services offered through the Adult Learning Center at West
