DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- West Georgia Tech opened the 2012 baseball season with a convincing 11-1 pounding of the Kennesaw State Club Team at Norton Field in Douglasville.

Anthony Green (North Cobb) was solid in his debut, pitching five innings of three-hit ball. Green struck out seven batters and walked none.

The Knights scored three runs in the second. Jamie McKnight (South Paulding) and Christian Prichard (Bremen) led off with singles and later scored on an error to make it a 2-0 game. Justin Batcher (East Paulding) doubled and scored on a single by Ryne Elrod (South Paulding) to extend the lead to 3-0.

A three-run fifth made it 6-0 West Georgia Tech. Stephen Fuller (Alexander) and McKnight both hit doubles in the inning. Phillip DePriest (Carrollton) also had an RBI single.

Prichard (3-for-4, 1 RBI) led the Golden Knights at the plate. DePriest (2-for-4, 2 RBI), McKnight (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Fuller (2-for-4, 2 runs) also had big days at the plate.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – The Golden Knights scored two runs in the sixth inning to break open a 2-1 game and went on to defeat the Kennesaw State Club Team 4-1 to complete the sweep.

Kennesaw State actually out-hit West Georgia Tech four to three.

The Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Hayden Petitta (East Paulding) scored on a passed ball.

After KSU tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning, the Knights responded with another run in the bottom of the frame to make it a 2-1 game.

It would stay 2-1 until the sixth inning. That’s when Dusty Davis (Chapel Hill) got things going with a single to right field. Davis later scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 3-1. Christian Prichard doubled to right field and scored when Phillip DePriest hit a triple down the left field line, making the score 4-1.

COVINGTON, Ga. – Georgia Perimeter easily defeated West Georgia Tech in game one of a designated non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Covington.

With the loss, the Golden Knights fell to 2-1 on the season.

Georgia Perimeter jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before West Georgia Tech tied it 2-2 in the top of the second.

After a line-out by Jamie McKnight to start the inning, Bremen product Christian Prichard singled. Phillip DePriest (Carrollton High School) followed with a single advancing Pritchard to third. Sean Watson hit a sacrifice fly to score Prichard. Later in the inning DePriest scored on an error to tie the game at 2-2.

Georgia Perimeter followed with a four-spot in the second and three more runs in the third to blow the game open.

Prichard (2-for-3) and Russ Morman (2-for-4) had solid days at the plate for West Georgia Tech.

Chase Patterson picked up the loss on the mound, lasting just 2.2 innings.

Ryan Turner was solid in his debut for the Golden Knights, pitching for the first time since Tommy John surgery over a year ago. Turner scattered three hits over five innings with five strikeouts. Brad Bartlett pitched two innings of relief to pick up the first save of his career.

COVINGTON, Ga. – A four-run fifth broke open a close game and helped Georgia Perimeter sweep the doubleheader with a 7-1 victory over West Georgia Tech Tuesday afternoon.

Georgia Perimeter took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a walk, a triple, and a throwing error.

The Golden Knights made it a 2-1 game in the third when Ryne Elrod doubled to start the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jamie McKnight.

Georgia Perimeter increased their lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the frame before adding four runs in the fifth.

Elrod had three hits to lead WGTC at the plate (3-for-4).

Justin Hobby (2.1 innings), Brad Bartlett (2.2 innings) and Josh Hill (1.0 innings) combined to hold Georgia Perimeter to just five hits while striking out six.

The Golden Knights dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Georgia Perimeter won game one 11-2 and swept the doubleheader. Both teams will play each other again in Douglasville in another non-region doubleheader before their four-game conference series once conference play begins.

WADLEY, Ala. – West Georgia Tech dropped a pitcher’s duel, 3-0, to Southern Union State Thursday in Wadley, Ala. Southern Union is a traditional power, having gone to the World Series last year.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-4 with the loss.

Freshman right hander Ryan Turner was outstanding on the mound. Turner gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in six innings of work. He fanned four Southern Union State batters.

West Georgia Tech was held to just three hits on the afternoon, two South Paulding product Jamie McKnight. McKnight went 2-for-4 on the day.

Southern Union scored single runs in the third, the sixth, and the eighth. Golden Knights pitching held Southern Union to just five hits.

West Georgia Tech’s best scoring chance was in the ninth. Down 3-0, the Knights had runners on first and second with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game.

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – The Golden Knights dropped to 2-4 on the season with a 14-2 loss at Chattahoochee Valley C. C. in Phenix City, Ala., on Saturday.

Chattahoochee Valley scored eight runs in the fifth inning to break open a 6-1 game.

The Golden Knights only mustered three hits on the afternoon and struck out 11 times. Chris Prichard, Phillip DePriest, and Matthew Pope each singled for the Knights.

West Georgia Tech committed six errors on the afternoon and gave up three home runs.

After falling behind 4-0 after two innings, the Knights scratched a run across the board in the top of the third when Pope led off the inning with a triple and scored on a groundout.

Chase Patterson picked up the loss on the mound. Patterson pitched 4.0 innings allowing six runs (2 earned) on five hits. Patterson struck out five.
