Dual Enrollment Options

Do you want to get a head start on your college career while still in high school?

Sure you do!

At West Georgia Technical College, you can earn college credit while completing your high school diploma. Dual enrollment gives you the opportunity to earn a technical certificate of credit or technical college diploma credits while also earning elective credit at your high school. The ACCEL program allows a student to take College-level core classes while also fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. West Georgia Technical College offers several different early enrollment options for current high school students. Make a selection below to find out which option is right for you:

Dual Enrollment Certificates

Dental Assisting students practice their skillsDual Enrollment Certificate courses are for high school students who would like to earn a technical certificate while working toward their high school diploma. Students will receive both technical college credit and high school credit for technical courses taken through West Georgia Tech.

Students may be enrolled full-time or part-time. Students may still participate in other classes and activities at their base high school. Students attend classes either online or at their local WGTC Campus. Available options by campus are listed on the left-hand side of this page.

To participate, students must be a high school junior or senior, at least 16 years old and on track to graduate. Students must meet minimum placement test scores required by the college (ACT, SAT, ASSET, or COMPASS). Interested students must complete the WGTC Dual Enrollment Application and Agreement process. Students and parents should then complete the HOPE Grant application online. HOPE can pay a portion of your expenses and courses attempted for Dual Enrollment Certificates do not count toward a student’s HOPE cap hours.

ACCEL

Students taking a break.West Georgia Technical College provides an opportunity for eligible Georgia public, private, and homeschooled high school students to earn college degree-level credit hours in English, math, social studies and other curricula as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements. Eligible students must meet certain criteria. The program is offered during the fall and spring terms of the school year. West Georgia Tech ACCEL courses are transferrable to most USG colleges and universities.

Students may be enrolled full-time or part-time. Students may still participate in other classes and activities at their base high school. Students attend classes either online or at their local WGTC Campus Culinary Arts students at Taste of Carrollton(program options by campus are listed on the left-hand side of this page).


To participate, students must be a high school junior or senior, at least 16 years old and on track to graduate. Students must meet minimum degree-level placement test scores (ACT, SAT, ASSET, or COMPASS) required by the college. Interested students must complete the WGTC Dual Enrollment Application and Agreement process. Students and parents should then complete part 1 of the ACCEL Application online. Courses attempted under ACCEL do not count toward a student’s HOPE cap hours.



MOWR

Move on When Ready (MOWR) – This is a dual enrollment opportunity for students to attend a postsecondary institution full-time during the student’s junior and/or senior year of high school. Students who participate will receive high school credit and college credit at the same time.

Students will be enrolled full-time (12 semester hours) at WGTC and will not attend their base high school for any classes. Students may attend their WGTC classes either online or at their local WGTC campus (program options by campus are linked on the left-hand side of this page).Welding students getting hands-on practice.

To participate in MOWR, students must be at least 16 years old, a high school junior or senior, and on track to graduate. Students must have also spent the prior school year in attendance at a public high school in Georgia. Interested students must meet minimum placement test scores required by the college (ACT, SAT, ASSET, or COMPASS). Next, students will need to complete the WGTC Dual Enrollment Application and Agreement process.  The Dual Enrollment Credit Participation Permission Form must also be completed and submitted with the high school counselor/official’s approval.
