About Mr. Murphy

Originally from Northeast Arkansas, I attended Arkansas State University where I received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music Education.  I taught High School music briefly at Westside High School in Jonesboro, AR and Salem High School in Salem, MO.

After leaving Salem High School, I was employed by Wal Mart Stores for the next several years.  I came to feel that education was where I belonged and returned to college to pursue Mathematics.  Continuing my studies at Jacksonville State University and The State University of West Georgia, I accumulated many undergraduate and graduate hours in mathematics.

I have taught Math for the last 16 years in the West Georgia Area: first at Hogansville High School and later at the new Callaway High School in Hogansville, GA.  I have had the experience of teaching all math courses from Beginning Math to Calculus.

In Fall of 2004, I had the great fortune to accept a position at West Georgia Technical College.  Even though I see classes that are much different, I find that the experience of teaching a broad spectrum of courses has been a very valuable resource.

My hope is to see a long and exciting growth for WGTC as we enter a new important phase, a new campus.  I know that we will be seeing more and more growth in programs and greater expansion in curriculum in the coming years.

I am a LaGrange Resident and have 2 ‘children’ (Cocker Spaniels).  I have been renovating an 80 year old home, active at church where I am staff musician, and active in community groups.  I like to garden, workout, read, play keyboards and waste way too much time with my computer.
