GRADING SYSTEMS
The following system represents the various grades which are
assigned to courses at the college. The grading system for West
Georgia Technical College is as follows:
A: 90 - 100
B: 80 - 89
C: 70 - 79
D: 60 - 69
F: Below 59 |
W: Withdrawn Passing
WF: Withdrawn Failing
I: Incomplete
|
AC: Articulated Credit
TR: Transfer
EX: Exempt
AU: Audit |
I: A grade of “I” can ONLY be given to a student
who has satisfactorily completed a substantial portion of the
coursework but for NON-ACADEMIC reasons beyond his/her control
has not been able to complete all of the required coursework
within the quarter. It is the student’s responsibility
to complete the required coursework in which the “I” was
received within two weeks into the next quarter, while maintaining
satisfactory progress in all other courses in which the student
is registered. If the “I” is not satisfactorily removed
by the second week of the next quarter, regardless of the student’s
status, the “I” will automatically be changed to
an “F”.
W: (Withdrawn) “W” is assigned when the student
withdraws from a course and had no grades at the point of withdrawal
or is withdrawn passing. “W” is not used in GPA calculations.
WF: (Withdrawn Failing) “WF” is assigned when the
student withdraws from a course after the midpoint of the course
and had an average of “F” or is making unsatisfactory
progress as defined by approved departmental policy at the time
of withdrawal. “WF” is used in GPA calculations,
earns no credit hours, and carries 0 grade points for each credit
hour attempted.
AU: Audit is agreed upon between the student
and the class instructor prior to registration into that class.
An “audit” carries
no credit. Course requirements for audited classes are agreed
upon by the student and instructor prior to registration.
Transcripts and Grade Reports contain two grades for each occupational
course. The first grade is the letter grade assigned for academic
work and skill development in the course. The second grade reflects
the work ethics of the student in the course.
LEARNING SUPPORT COURSE GRADES
Students will receive letter grades in learning support classes
and the COL 099 College Life class
Grades earned in those classes appear on the student transcript
with an asterisk (*) beside the grade (A*, B*, C*, D*, F*). Learning
support
class grades are not included in computation of the student’s academic
grade point average (GPA). The Financial Aid Office does include learning
support class grades in computing Hope Scholarship GPA and calculating
the completion rate for satisfactory academic progress for financial
aid eligibility.
TRANSCRIPTS AND GRADE REPORTS
Students attending West Georgia Technical College receive a
quarterly grade report via Bannerweb. No grades will be available
when the record shows financial indebtedness to the college.
Students may obtain an unofficial transcript of their academic
records via Bannerweb.
Students may obtain copies of their academic
records by submitting a written request and transcript fee
to the Registrar’s
Office. The student transcript contains the following information:
program of study, courses of study completed with corresponding
grades, credit hours earned, and quarters of attendance.
Official transcripts are sealed in collegial envelopes
with West Georgia Technical College’s seal and are not valid if opened by the student.
Student copies are stamped “Student Copy.” West Georgia Technical
College will not release copies of student transcripts without written
permission from the student and payment of transcript fee. Though transcripts
are processed as promptly as possible, the requests should be made one
week before the document is required, particularly at the beginning or
end of a quarter.
To request a transcript, please send the Transcript Request
form and a $3.00 transcript fee by postal mail to the West Georgia
Technical College Registrar's Office, 303 Fort Drive, LaGrange,
GA 30240.

COMPUTING GRADE POINT AVERAGE
(GPA)
Each letter grade has a point value (i.e.,
A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1). A student may determine the grade points
for each course by multiplying
the number of points a grade is worth times the number of credit
hours the course carries. Thus a “B” (worth 3 points)
in a 3 credit hours course is worth 9 grade points and an “A” (worth
4 points) in the same 3 credit hours course is worth 12 grade
points.
The grade point average is calculated by adding the total grade
point values for all courses and dividing by the total number
of credits attempted during the same period.
Example: SCT 100, 3 credit hours, Grade A (4 points) = 12
MSD
220, 3 credit hours, Grade B (3 points) = 9
MSD
104, 5 credit hours, Grade F (0 points) = 0
MSD
109, 5 credit hours, Grade B (3 points) = 15
Total
Points = 36
36
points divided by 16 credits = 2.25 grade point average
A cumulative minimum grade point average
of “C” (2.0)
is required in order to earn a diploma at West
Georgia Technical College. The student should have a 2.0 grade point
average in all work attempted.
While a student may earn a cumulative average of 2.0 which includes one
or more grades of “D,” it is
well to remember that grades below “C” are seldom transferable
to other colleges and will prohibit
progression to other courses for which the current course is a prerequisite.
Neither Learning Support
nor Work Ethics grades shall affect the cumulative grade point average.
