  President's Message

Greetings on behalf of the faculty and staff of West Georgia Technical College.Forty years ago West Georgia Technical College began serving the workforce development needs of the west Georgia region. Over the years the College has evolved to meet the educational demands of the region. What began as a vocational-trade school in 1966 is today a modern multifaceted learning organization serving a wide range of training and educational needs.

As we plan for the next forty years we do so with an optimistic outlook. Many of the College’s programs and services will be relocating to the new West Campus. A proposed extension of Fort Drive will unite the two campuses into one large educational complex. A new instructional emphasis on advanced automated manufacturing will help prepare a workforce for the many new industries that will make west Georgia their home over the next two years.

The next forty years will bring tremendous change to the region of west Georgia and to West Georgia Technical College. Although we can’t know for sure what those changes will bring, we do know that West Georgia Technical College will be there with a broader scope and mission perhaps, but still there serving the individual and the community through education. The College motto, “Science Applied for the Good of the Community,” was selected at the beginning of this new century as our guiding principle. It will continue to provide focus as we make our way into the future.

Prospective students will find sixteen associate degree programs, fifteen diploma programs, and over sixty-four certificate programs. As the primary mission of the College is workforce development, each of these programs has been designed to meet the standards and requirements for a job or career in a specific business, health, or industrial field. Whether you are a traditional student, a part-time evening student, an online student, or an employer with job specific training needs, the faculty and staff of West Georgia Technical College stand ready to help you achieve your educational goals.

Thank you for your interest in West Georgia Technical College where you will find a Real Education for the Real World. We hope you will take time to visit us in the future, either in person or online.

Daryl Gilley, Ed.D.
