Barbering - Diploma

The purpose of the barbering program is to
provide an opportunity for students to learn the manipulative
skills and acquire the scientific and technical knowledge
necessary to enter the field of barber/styling at the job-entry
level. Students are to become proficient in the techniques,
care, sanitary practices, and safety in using implements
and equipment for shaving; hair cutting; shampooing; giving
scalp and hair treatments; hair coloring; hair styling; chemical
hair relaxing; permanent waving; and facial treatments. Students
who complete program requirements receive a diploma and are
prepared to sit for the state licensure exam.
Length of Program
A minimum of 79 credit hours is required for graduation.
A full time student can expect to
complete the program in 6-7 quarters.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates are prepared for employment in barbershops, salons,
and other hair care settings as a professional barber.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Age: Applicant must
be 16 years or older.
Education: A high school
diploma/GED is required.
Program Acceptance/Placement: Applicant
must achieve program ready or provisional
scores on the ASSET placement test (or
submit acceptable SAT/ACT scores.) Applicants
who do not attain the minimum scores
may take refresher/remedial instruction
in order to meet admissions requirements.
