Medical Assisting -
Diploma

The West Georgia Technical College Medical
Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation
of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP), on recommendation
of the curriculum review Board of the American association
of Medical Assistant’s Endowment AAMAE). The Program prepares
students for a variety of careers in the medical and outpatient
setting. It provides learning opportunities, which introduce,
develop and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge,
skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition in the
medical field. Students completing the program may take the
AAMA certifying exam in June or January following completion.
Any student with a history of a felony may be unable to sit
for the AAMA certifying examination, but may be accepted
on a person-by-person basis through the AAMA certifying board.
Length of Program
A minimum of 82-84 credit hours is required for graduation. A full time student
can expect to complete the program in 5-6 quarters.
Employment Opportunities
A graduate may find employment as a phlebotomist, medical transcriptionist,
EKG technician, physical therapy aide,
medical office receptionist, medical records clerk, medical assistant or in
related employment.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Age: Applicant must
be 17 years or older.
Education: A high school
diploma/GED is required.
Program Acceptance/Placement: Applicant
must achieve program ready or provisional
scores on the ASSET placement test (or
submit acceptable SAT/ACT scores.) Applicants
who do not attain the minimum scores
may take refresher/remedial instruction
in order to meet admissions requirements.
