Financial Aid and Transient Status

Students in good standing and enrolled at West Georgia Technical College may choose to enroll in classes at other colleges (host colleges) throughout the state for credit towards their program of study while West Georgia Technical College remains their home college. To enroll as a transient student, the following must be completed before the pre-registration period:

1. If taking transient classes on campus at another college, the student should contact the home school registrar during pre-registration. The registrar will determine eligibility and complete a transient agreement to be sent to the host college of your choice. Students admission and financial aid files must be complete and in good standing before taking transient classes.

2. If taking transient classes on-line at a host college, a student must apply through the Georgia Virtual Technical College (GVTC) at the web site www.gvtc.org and follow all the directions to apply for courses through this clearinghouse. This step should be completed during pre-registration as many colleges have deadlines that may prevent registration after the deadline has passed with www.gvtc.org.

3. VA students must also contact both VA certifying officials at the home college and host college and request that they both certify the class hours for which they are enrolled at the host college to Veterans Affairs.

4. The host college facilitates the award for the HOPE Grant or Scholarship covering tuition and fees and issues a book voucher. Students should contact the host college to redeem the book voucher.

5. Students who receive only the Pell Grant are responsible for tuition and fees at the time of registration. The host college will forward the credit hours enrolled to the home college to be credited to the student’s PELL award. The Federal Pell Grant will be awarded to on-line students in the last week of classes after the Financial Aid Office has received certification of the student’s enrollment by the host school.

6. The student should make arrangements with the host college to send official grades to the home college when the quarter is over.
