Proctoring & Fee Information

Registration and tuition process for online classes are the same as that for traditional classes except:

  • All online classes are accessible to the students one day prior to the start of classes.
  • The online student may have to pay a fee in case proctored examinations are required and the student cannot schedule the test at one of the WGTC campus libraries. ProctorU exams must be scheduled at least 72-hours in advance of the examination.

Using ProctorU for proctoring (optional) requires a webcam and microphone (for specifics, please check your BBLearn course room or visit WGTC ProctorU tutorial website at www.proctoru.com/portal/westgatech.

What is a “proctored exam”?

A proctored exam is the test that requires the student to be overseen/supervised by an individual called a proctor; the proctor is approved by the instructor. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process much like an instructor would in a face-to-face course.

How do I know if I need to make arrangements for a proctored exam?

You must check you syllabus as soon as you have access to your online course room. The name of the proctored exam and exam dates should be listed on the course syllabus and/or course calendar. If you are not clear, the contact (email) your instructor immediately for an answer.
NOTE: COMP 1000 courses do not require a proctored assignment or exam.

How Do I Find a Proctor?

Find an approved proctor.

If the student uses an approved proctor, the student must find the proctor and have this person approved within the first two-weeks of the term. The student must comply with any payment schedule that may be required by the approved proctor and/or testing center. The student must schedule the exam date and time with the proctor in advance of the testing schedule provided by the online instructor.

Who can serve as an approved proctor?

  • An educator or librarian at any college, university and/or educational setting
  • Librarian at a public library.
  • An officer of higher rank than the student, if military.
  • Staff member at a college or university testing center.

A proctor must have internet access for the student, printer, scanner, and or a fax machine if necessary.
NOTE: The student may be charged a fee by the proctor/proctor site.

How do I schedule my proctored exam(s)?

  • Check you online course room for all exam dates and times as soon as you have access to the course.
  • Contact your approved proctor with the schedule and pay any fees in advance of the exam date.
  • Schedule your exam within the testing window outlined by the course instructor.  The student is responsible for providing email and other contact information regarding the proctor to the course instructor.

What are the proctor’s responsibilities?

  • The proctor must ensure that all necessary technology is available and working.
  • No copies of the exam are to be made at any time.
  • The proctor must follow the instructions provided by the instructor.

Proctored exam options:

At WGTC, we have 3 proctoring exam choices:
  1. Make a Face to Face Appointment. Schedule Your Appointment

  2. Online Proctoring: Online Proctoring Portal
Use ProctorU online (when applicable and you have a webcam and system requirements)

  3. Use a third-party proctor with prior approval from your course instructor.

Come to a WGTC Library.  You must schedule exam at your preferred WGTC Campus Library location during the dates and times identified by your instructor.

Use ProctorU online proctoring. This process allows the student to complete the online exam using a webcam as long as you have the system requirements. With a computer and webcam, you can take the proctored test anywhere you have internet access. ProctorU monitors the student's computer while the student completes the exam.
