The Women’s Golden Knights Basketball team will be a new addition to Athletics at West Georgia Technical in 2009. Tryouts will be held in the Fall Quarter.

Women’s Basketball Head Coach Shaneka Bates

Shaneka BatesShaneka Bates is an award winning athlete and leader in her community. She will graduate December 2009 from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology. In 2007, Bates received her Associates Degree in Applied Science from Shelton State Community College – a Junior College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Her hard work in the classroom, on the basketball court and in the community has earned her a nomination for the Degree Completion Award. This notable award from the NCAA is presented to athletes who are at least 36 hours away from completing their first Undergraduate degree. Shaneka was chosen to represent the University of West Georgia.

Bates is an East Alabama native who graduated from Cleburne County High School, in Heflin, Alabama. Shaneka’s academic accomplishments and stand-out performances on the basketball court led to a basketball scholarship to Shelton State Community College under the leadership of Head Coach Madonna Thompson. After completing her two years she received a scholarship to the University of West Georgia where the head coach is Craig Roden. Shaneka will join the Golden Knights coaching staff as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach in the program’s inaugural year.

Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Crushundia Hayes 

Crushundia HayesCrushundia Hayes is the Assistant Coach for the Golden Knights Women’s Basketball team in its inaugural year. Crushundia graduated in 2006 from Cleburne County High School in Heflin, Alabama where she was a member of the basketball team. She has a passion for basketball and wants to help others learn the sport, particularly children.
