Matt Pilon to Serve as Faculty Advisor for Math GPT
WACO, GA – Matt Pilon, Mathematics Department Chair at West Georgia Technical College (WGTC), has been selected to serve as a Faculty Advisor for Math GPT, an artificial intelligence teaching platform used to create assignments, upload course materials and grade work.
As a Faculty Advisor, Pilon will serve on a committee of instructors from across the nation who will provide guidance and feedback on the platform’s development.
“Math GPT put the committee together to get feedback on what they have,” Pilon said. “They want to figure out a potential new direction for the product. They want to know what is working for students, what is not working for students, and what features we would want to see in the future. The committee consists of 15 to 20 faculty members, representing both the college and high school levels.”
Pilon said Math GPT officials reached out to him about serving on the committee, and he said he was excited to accept the offer because he has been using the program for a long time.
“I jumped on the opportunity because we were one of the first schools to look at Math GPT while they were still building out their platform,” Pilon said. “So, I have been involved with them for a bit now, working with their VP and a few other people there to help them build things out. They have been absolutely amazing in customer service and getting things built for us that we need.”
As a member of the committee, Pilon said he wants to ensure classrooms at West Georgia Technical College and across the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) can learn how to best use Math GPT.
“I want to make sure that West Georgia Tech and TCSG get what they need out of Math GPT,” Pilon said. “There’s one other instructor from TCSG also from Southern Regional Tech who is also on the committee, so we want to work together on achieving that goal. For me personally, I want to make sure that the product I have a say in improving, is the best that it can be since I use it all the time.”
Pilon said collaborating with instructors from across the nation has already provided valuable insight.
“When working with other instructors, I get to learn the differences between what we have here at TCSG and what other instructors are doing nationwide,” Pilon said. “While being on this committee I have learned that this is a product that everyone really seems to care about because they all have the same goal of making it better for both instructors and students alike.”
