Orientation

All new, accepted students and students who have been out of WGTC for two years or more MUST complete orientation.

Spring 2019 face to face Orientation was held on December 5th at the Murphy and LaGrange campuses.  Anyone who was unable to attend orientation on December 5th is required to complete online orientation.

You can access online orientation here.  Within 2 business days of the completion of orientation your hold will be removed and you will have permission in the system to register for your classes. The online orientation will detail the resources you need to register for your courses so make sure to print them out or save them so you can reference them when you’re ready to register. Log into your banner web frequently to see if your orientation hold has been lifted.  The online orientation will detail the resources you need to register but if you have additional questions  while you’re completing everything at home you can contact the advising center in the following ways:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

 

Q: Will I need to bring money to orientation?

A: You won’t need any money for the actual program, but you may want to bring some money if you would like to grab a snack or if you want to buy some Golden Knights gear in the WGTC Bookstore!

 

Q: Will I have to pay tuition and fees at Orientation?

A: No, you are not required to pay tuition and fees at orientation. Please check Self-Service Banner Web and the WGTC website for information about fee payment deadlines. Your classes will be dropped if you do not pay fees by the deadline so make sure you check out the deadlines here: www.westgatech.edu/Banner/index.htm

 

Q: Will there be food served at Orientation?

A: The program should last no more than two hours, so there will not be food provided at orientation; however, if you bring snack money you can find vending machines conveniently located in hallways as well as in the Student Center. Snacks can also be purchased in the bookstore.

 

Q: What will happen at orientation?

A: We will introduce you to all the things you need to know to be successful at WGTC. During orientation you will meet key individuals on your campus, advisers and other students. You will be advised and registered for classes. We can’t wait to have you join WGTC!

 

Q: Do I have to attend orientation?

A: Yes, but here’s why. All new students or students who have been out for two years must attend orientation. This is a chance for you to get warmed up before the big first day of class. We want to make sure you’re comfortable with your campus, your classes and your schedule. Orientation is also a great time to meet other students! Make sure you sign up for orientation as soon as possible so that you get the date and campus location of your choice!

 

Q: Do I need to do anything before I attend New Student Orientation?

A: Yes! Please make sure you do each of the following before orientation:

  • Log in to your Self-Service Banner Web account
  • Log in to your WGTC Student Email account and begin checking your email regularly
  • Download your program’s sequencing sheet which you can find at [link to 2.2.2] and bring it with you to orientation
  • If you haven’t applied for financial aid, apply online at https://fafsa.ed.gov, with WGTC school code 010487
  • If you have applied for financial aid, check your Self-Service Banner Web account for outstanding documents or for your financial aid award

 

Q: What if I am not able to log in to my Self-Service Banner Web or my WGTC Student Email?

A: Sign up for orientation and when you arrive, inform staff at check-in that you were not able to log in. We will assist you through your login and you will continue with orientation.

 

Q: Do I need to bring anything with me?

A: Bring your Admissions Evaluation (needed for advisement)

Bring a printed copy of the Program Sequencing Sheet that was emailed to your WGTC Student Email account

 

Q: What if I lost my Admissions Evaluation?

A: Arrive a little early to orientation and we can reprint you a copy.
