PHLEBOTOMY

Phlebotomists are specialized clinical support assistants who collect blood and other samples from patients for examination in laboratories, the results of which provide valuable information for diagnosing illness. Duties include: collection and preparation of specimens; maintenance of collection areas and equipment and supplies; and performance of record keeping duties.

Mission Statement

The Phlebotomy Technician certificate program is committed to serving the medical laboratory community by educating students in human anatomy, medical terminology, patient care, and venipuncture technique. Graduates of the program are competent in collecting and processing blood specimens and are eligible to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) Certification.
