HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship FAQ

Q:Why is my HOPE not included in my award?
A:

There are several reasons a HOPE award may not be included in your award offer:

  • You are at one of the evaluation checkpoints
  • Your GPA is below the requirement for continuation of the grant or scholarship
  • You have exhausted the maximum attempted or paid hour limit for the scholarship or grant
  • You have changed from a diploma to an associate degree program, which has different eligibility requirements
Q:What are the eligibility requirements for HOPE Grant?
A:

HOPE Grant recipients must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;
  • Be a legal resident of Georgia;
  • Be registered with Selective Service;
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress;
  • Not be in default on a Federal or State loan program or owe a refund on a Federal or State financial aid program;
  • Be pursuing a certificate or diploma;
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average at each checkpoint for continued eligibility;
  • Must not have earned a bachelor’s degree.
Q:How do I apply for the HOPE Grant?
A:

You will need to complete a FAFSA or a GSFAPP on Georgia Futures.
Q:How much does HOPE Grant pay?
A:

HOPE pays $90 per credit hour toward your assessed tuition charges.
Q:Is there a limit to my HOPE Grant eligibility?
A:

Yes.  You can receive the HOPE Grant until you have exhausted the 63-paid-hour limit in a certificate or diploma program.
Q:What is the eligibility requirement for HOPE Scholarship?
A:

HOPE Scholarship recipients must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;

  • Be registered with Selective Service;

  • Graduate from a HOPE-eligible high school with a minimum 3.0 grade point average in specific courses (English, math, social studies, science, and foreign language) as calculated by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) or have earned a 3.0 cumulative grade point average after attempting 30, 60, 90 semester hours after high school graduation, home study, or earning a GED.
  • Be pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree;
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average at each checkpoint (30, 60, 90 attempted-hours, and end of spring) for continued eligibility;
  • Must not have earned a bachelor’s degree.
Q:How do I apply for the HOPE Scholarship?
A:

You will need to complete a FAFSA or a GSFAPP on Georgia Futures.  You will also need to submit a HOPE Evaluation Request Form at https://form.jotform.com/81014505038143.

A:

HOPE pays $76 per credit hour toward your assessed tuition charges.
Q:Is there a limit to my HOPE Scholarship eligibility?
A:

Yes.  You can receive HOPE Scholarship funding until one of the following occurs:

  • Seven years have elapsed since you graduated from high school;
  • Reach the 127-semester hour limit; or
  • The attainment of a baccalaureate degree.
