Competitive Selection Process for Health Sciences and Nursing Programs

Admission to West Georgia Technical College’s Health Sciences and Nursing diploma and degree programs is based on a competitive selection process. There are minimum requirements for admission to individual Health Sciences and Nursing programs, and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

All competitive selection programs will require ALL postsecondary education official transcripts on file. If it is determined that we are missing 1 or more official transcripts upon your evaluation, your application will be denied.

Non-Georgia residents shall be enrolled on a space-available basis and shall not displace any student desiring to enroll who is a resident of the state. This applies to programs with limited seating, such as competitive selection Health Sciences and Nursing programs and programs that have a waiting list. How Applicants Are Ranked

Effective for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2027.

All Health Sciences and Nursing programs

  • Course attempts: Prerequisite courses may be attempted no more than two times. If a course is attempted twice, the two grades are averaged. The higher grade is not used. Attempts beyond two are not considered.
  • GPA calculation: Applicants are ranked using 60% prerequisite GPA and 40% overall GPA.
  • WGTC bonus point: Applicants who complete all competitive-selection prerequisite courses at West Georgia Technical College receive one bonus point. This applies to all programs.

Health Sciences Programs

(Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Funeral Service Education, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology)

  • Prerequisite GPA includes English Composition, Psychology, and all other required prerequisites listed on the program's checklist.
  • No entrance exam is required.
  • Bonus points: The WGTC bonus point is the only bonus point awarded.

Nursing Programs

(Associate Degree Nursing, LPN-RN Bridge)

  1. Prerequisite GPA includes the prerequisite courses listed on the program's checklist.
  2. TEAS exam: Applicants must complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a minimum Adjusted Individual Total Score of 75% and an Individual Score of 65% in each subject.
  3. Current State CNA License: Current LPN license, EMT certification, CMA certification, or Surgical Tech certification will satisfy this requirement.
  4. Bonus points:
    • One (1) point for completing all competitive-selection prerequisites at WGTC.
    • One (1) point for six (6) months of clinical work experience. Clinical experience is defined as "actual patient care that includes the delivery of physical care such as certified nursing assistant, nurse aide, licensed practical nurse, patient care technician, medical assistant, surgical technician, back-office worker in a clinic or physician's office, or emergency medical technician." Submit an employer letter on company letterhead that includes dates of employment, job title, and a brief description of duties.
    • One (1) point for completing the Nurse Aide Accelerated Certificate (NAST 2100 and ALHS 1090) or the Nurse Aide Certificate (NAST 2100, ALHS 1090, ALHS 1060, ALHS 1040).
    • Two (2) points for current Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN).

Eligibility Notice: To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have completed all required classes and received final grades. Applications that include coursework still in progress will not be reviewed.

Some competitive programs may require entrance exams. West Georgia Tech offers these exams through the Assessment & Testing Center.
