RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY

If you are looking for a health care career that works with the latest advances in medical care where you will be a vital part of the patient care team, Radiologic Technology is a good choice. Radiologic technologists perform diagnostic imaging examinations on patients. They are responsible for preparing patients for procedures, adjusting and maintaining equipment and working with physicians to get the best images possible to properly evaluate the patient.

Mission Statement

The mission of the West Georgia Technical College Radiologic Technology Program is to prepare competent entry level radiographers through educating students in patient care skills, radiation safety, image production, and exam procedures, by utilizing classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction experiences.  The program prepares students for employment in various medical imaging settings. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) national examination.

Computed Tomography

The mission of the West Georgia Technical College Computed Tomography Program is to instruct ARRT registered technologists seeking post-secondary education. The program will further develop the student’s patient care skills, radiation safety as applied in the CT department, and enhance their knowledge of procedures and protocols selected.  The program prepares students for employment in the Computed Tomography profession after completing certification of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination.

Mammography

The mission of the West Georgia Technical College Mammography Program is to instruct ARRT registered technologists seeking post-secondary education.  The program will further develop the student’s patient care skills, radiation safety as applied in the mammography department, enhance their knowledge of procedures and protocols, and teach governmental guidelines for quality assurance (QA).  The program prepares students for employment in the Mammography profession after completing certification of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination.

Note: The Mammography and Computed Technology certificates are only offered at the LaGrange campus.

Accreditation

Our programmatic accreditation agency, the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), evaluated our program according to the Standards for an Accredited Educational Program in Radiography and we were awarded accreditation for a period of eight years – the maximum duration that may be awarded.
